Kellie Johnson Says She's Running for Multnomah County DA (With Campaign Video)

The first candidate to replace longtime Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schrunk has officially jumped into the race.

Kellie Johnson, a disciplinary counsel at the Oregon State Bar who previously worked as a deputy in Schrunk's office, sent an email to potential supporters this morning saying she'll make the DA's office "a more active partner in taking on the public safety challenges we face as a community."

As first reported in WW last winter, speculation has been swirling that Schrunk—who has served as DA since 1981—is considering retirement. He would be up for re-election in 2012. Several potential candidates have expressed interest, but Schrunk has not yet publicly announced his plans.

Johnson's name sprang up last month as the candidate behind a job posting seeking a campaign manager.
