Jeff Cogen on Adams' Decision: 'My Decision Not to Run for Mayor Still Stands'

Multnomah County Chair Jeff Cogen says he's sticking by his earlier decision not to run for mayor of Portland, despite Mayor Sam Adams' announcement today that he won't seek re-election.

"The mayor's announcement today does not change my earlier choice," Cogen was quoted as saying in a prepared statement. "I look forward to working with Portland's next mayor."

Cogen had said he was thinking about running for mayor. But to do so, the county charter would have required him to step down during his first term as county chair.
