"Extortion" Mug Shot Site Stops Charging People To Have Their Booking Photos Removed—For Now

news2-mugshots_3742
WW's exposure of a web site that charges people to stop having their mug shots put on the web has apparently compelled the web site's operators to stop the practice—at least for now.

As do many sites, pdxmugshots.com scrapes booking photos from law enforcement web pages then posts them in a gallery online. Pdxmugshots.com then charges people $39 to have their photos taken down and files scrubbed so their photos don't pop up on Google searches.

The parent company, KA Marketing, runs at least dozens of other mug shot sites in states including Louisiana, Arizona, Tennessee, Idaho, Missouri and Georgia. Most reviewed by WW appeared nearly identical to pdxmugshots.com and also offered to remove photos for a fee. Our review shows that—at the moment—the practice has been halted on those sites as well.

Calls to the site's parent company, KA Marketing, based in Redding, Calif., were not returned.

all you hippies realize that the city posts these photos on their website right?  once again we blame the guys who took a great idea and capitalized.  Your anger should be directed at the guy getting the duii at 11 am when my wife and kids are out on the road with him!!!

What about those who were innocent, falsely accused, and had all charges dropped?

You Mr. Upstanding Citizen realize that the city posts them and they stay for 30 days, right? And go away if the charges do? They don't stay there forever. Uninformed.

There are plenty of states that do not participate in this shit.  I'm really surprised Oregon does.  In terms of being misinformed...these pictures stay on the Internet until you pay $68, and another one of their friends like ArrestCentral.com $100 and then if you want to pay Reputation.com (another one of their friends, this is actually true) say $600 to "clean up" your apperance on the Internet theyll do that for you too.  IT DOES NOT MATTER WHETHER THE CHARGES GO AWAY OR NOT.  THESE GUYS ARE CRIMINALS BECAUSE THEY COMMIT EXTORTION, BRIBERY AND SLANDER. It's unethical and it's because they think they can get away with it.  No respect for the law themselves.  So Class Action is what stopped Intellius (look it up) and it can happen again.

@Michael: This article sparked my interest, so I checked out the website.  It states clearly on his site "If your charges were dismissed or you were found not guilty, we absolutely will.  Please e-mail your name and scanned paperwork (and or case ID number) to the email address listed below and we will look into at our earliest convenience. Note: If deceased loved one has appeared, we will also delete their image.

No it's not NICE. It's BS. They are just extorting money from people.

Extortion is the keyword here. My girlfriend just passed away and I can't even get them to give her peace and a memory for her family. Heartless, ruthless, greedy hillbillies in charge. Let's establish a class action lawsuit

Its not nice you idiot. What if your little angel made a mistake and ended up on the site.
