A Happy Laundry Story

Here's a nice holiday story I just learned about. This Wednesday, Dec. 16, the Laundry Love Project will host a Christmas Party at Sunshine Laundromat (7914 NE Glisan St.) for locals who have benefited from the volunteer effort over the past 19 months.

The volunteer program by JustOne, a nonprofit, washes the clothing and bedding of those who are homeless or living in motels or shelters. The idea is that service will let already cash-strapped people spend money on other daily necessities.

“You would never think that the laundromat could be the source of hope for people,” said Reina O'Beck of JustOne. “It's those extraneous expenses that set people in borderline poverty over the edge.”

Laundry Love is in more than 70 locations throughout the United States.
