Jefferson Smith Is Running For Mayor

Jefferson Smith

Bus Project founder and State Rep. Jefferson Smith (D-East Portland) announced today that he will run for mayor. The current field of candidates to replace Mayor Sam Adams includes former City Commissioner Charlie Hales and New Seasons Market co-founder Eileen Brady.

WW previously reported that Smith was considering entering the race. Today, Smith says, he received treatment for a corneal abrasion, resulting from overuse of contact lenses—so he's half-blind at the moment.

"It's not my eyes we need, it's my vision," Smith says.

Checking the new issue of WW, out tomorrow, for more details on Smith's candidacy and the mayoral race.
