Portland Receives Funding for Homeless People Living with HIV/AIDS

The Portland Housing Bureau says it's received $1.365 million from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to help fund rent assistance, employment services and permanent housing for homeless people with HIV/AIDS.  

Portland is one of only eight communities chosen to receive federal money from HUD, beating out 38 other cities.  

City Commissioner Nick Fish calls the new grant a "big win," and the city says the three-year grant will provide homes and vocational support for up to 60 people a year with HIV/AIDS. According to PortlandOnline, more than 600 people in the Portland area live with HIV/AIDS and either experience homelessness or are on the brink of becoming homeless.
