Photo Review: Glass Candy in Paris

Just after 2 am on Saturday, Glass Candy took to the stage at noted Paris club night Flash Cocotte, to a rabid audience that rivaled the hometown crowds that gather at Rotture whenever the pair plays the Rose City.

Opening with "Digital Versicolor," front-woman Ida No was nearly unrecognizable with her new brunette hair-do and heavy '60s-style makeup. Of course, the moment she slipped off her shoes to take the stage in her signature barefoot style, everything was clear. The Italo-disco duo debuted its new songs "Beautiful Object" and "Warm in the Winter," as well as another new track with an addictively low bassline (the name of which remained a mystery). The set included several pulsating renditions from B/E/A/T/B/O/X, a mutated version of "Miss Broadway" and a condensed version of "Feeling Without Touching," while No rode high on a wave of hands. With plenty of crowd surfing, positive energy, sweat and hand shakes to spare, things were indeed "Happy like a New Year" to borrow a line from one of Glass Candy's songs....
