This morning, Portland Police reported the death of Deandre Clark, 25. Clark was shot Friday night in North Portland in an incident police said was gang-related. This afternoon, after a spate of recent gang shootings, the Police Bureau released some figures to put the violence in context.
Here's the info from PPB spokesman Lt. Robert King:
"The Gang Violence Reduction Team responds to all Measure 11 crimes, which is largely shootings and stabbings and serious assaults. Below are the numbers for 6 years. One factor to consider in the increase of GVRT call outs since 2006 is that officers and sergeants in the precincts call GVRT more often," King wrote. "In the past officers would conduct these investigations when no one was hit but over the last few years the Gang Team is now responding to all calls that have or may have a gang nexus."
