The results are in from the holiday weekend. What follows is a list of the
most-abused substances in Portland, as roughly measured by the charges upon arrest for people booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center between Friday, Dec. 31, 2011 and Sunday, Jan. 2, 2012.
Cocaine: 18
Heroin: 18
Meth: 17
Alcohol (on public property): 7
Prescription drugs (unspecified): 2
These results don't show
39 charges for driving under the influence of intoxicants, most of which likely involved some form of
alcohol, if not champagne.
It's no surprise that booze would hold the top spot (after factoring in all those DUIIs).
What is surprising…
Where's the weed?! Booking reports for the New Year's weekend don't show a single charge for
marijuana possession. What possible explanation could there be for this? Blind luck? Were Portland's potheads simply
too demotivated—or, perhaps, enraptured by that
strange, glistening orb—to venture outdoors?
Wonders never cease.
