DoveLewis, the animal hospital specializing in emergency and critical care, announced today it will close its Southeast Portland after-hours clinic Dec. 11. Hospital officials say the clinic, located at 10564 SW Washington Street, has experienced years of budget shortfalls – including a projected loss of $250,000 this fiscal year alone.
Before the recession, the main DoveLewis hospital at 1945 NW Pettygrove had generated enough money to shore up losses at the satellite clinic. But DoveLewis CEO Ron Morgan says in a news release that the past few years have been tough and that, “We could no longer jeopardize our community programs or our operations at DoveLewis NW to fund the losses at our SE Portland facility.”
The main DoveLewis NW hospital in Northwest Portland will remain open 24 hours a day.
