Metro Councilor Hosticka Files For House Seat: Updated

Carl Hosticka

Metro Councilor Carl Hosticka filed last week to run for House District 37, the seat currently held by State Rep. Julie Parrish (R-Tualatin/West Linn).

Hosticka, a Democrat, previously served in the Legislature from 1983 to 1994, representing parts of Lane County. A professor of public policy at the University of Oregon, Hosticka has served on the Metro Council since 2000, representing District 3, which covers parts of Clackamas and Washington Counties.

The district is one of the most evenly divided in the state, with Democrats outnumbering Republicans by only about 400 votes under (although that number is likely to change when newly drawn district registration totals are released, which the elections division says will happen by Feb. 15).

Updated at 11:07 on Feb 3:

Hosticka has merely filed an exploratory committee, rather than filing for the office itself. That means he is not a candidate yet.

"I am still investigating whether running is a good idea," Hosticka says. He says he expects to reach a decision by the end of February.
