In an effort to assess Portlanders' actual enthusiasm for electric cars, Portland State University is conducting a survey about them—and they are dangling the possibility of winning prizes if you take part.
People filling out the survey—which seeks opinion about cars and foreign oil—are put into a raffle to win an all-electric weekend.
The winner gets a to drive a Nissan Leafâthe first completely electric carâcourtesy of Enterprise Rent-a-Car, during the weekend of March 2-4. The prize package also includes tickets to OMSI, the Portland Art Museum, and a Trail Blazers-Minnesota Timberwolves game; and a weekend stay at the Heathman Hotel and free passes on the MAX and Portland Streetcar.

George Beard, who put together the survey and gift package, says none of the companies are getting paid to provide the prizes. Rather, he says, most of them have sustainability departments that were excited to participate. Both the museum and the Blazers both recently installed electric car plug-in stations, Beard says.
He says the PSU Office of Research and Strategic Planning, of which he is a manager, has long been interested in proving electric cars work for people.
âI know that it works technically, but we want to prove the practical feasibility,â Beard says. âWe have not become a shill for the electric car industry, but weâre very interested in investigating the technology.â
