Mayor Adams Posts Oregonian Interview

Mayor Sam AdamsMayor Sam Adams

On Sunday, The Oregonian published a story by Beth Slovic (who used to work at WW), suggesting that the conditions of roads in Portland have deteriorated under Mayor Adams, while he has funded other priorities.  The article extends the reporting done in this paper back in May of 2011, called "Dirt Road, Dead Ends."

Adams has fought back, first with a column in today's O, and this morning, with the decision to post the audio tape of the interview Slovic had with Adams on the Mayor's blog. The interview is more than an hour long and gets quite contentious. (Scroll to the bottom of the page or listen below.)

Given the size of Adams' ego--and his greasy grasp on what "truth" is--I'm surprised there was room in the interview room for both him and Slovic.

And dang--I was hoping he'd Tweet his response or something.

Six words:  "No road repaving for five years."

It doesn't matter what excuses/rationalizations City Hall comes up with.  Paving is a very basic core function of a city transportation department.  One way or another, Adams has screwed up so bad the city can't do it for five years.  I'm sure Adams can come up with all sorts of weasel-talk to explain it, but six words:

"No road repaving for five years."

Arrogant, defensive and evasive. And then he whines about the story that came out of his ridiculous performance and is so self-deluded that he thinks it makes him look better to post it.

Wow -- I just listened to about 45 minutes of the interview.  Beth seems like an awful, awful journalist, completely reporting to a thesis without caring about the facts. Are these the people covering City Hall? Yikes. It makes me wonder about everything else that gets reported in The Oregonian and in the WW. I don't know how people like Beth sleep at night.

"I don't know how people like Beth sleep at night"

Trying a little too hard, aren't we? Nice try, though.
