There will be a vigil this afternoon at 4 pm in Terry Schrunk Plaza across from the east end of
City Hall downtown for the victims, survivors and loved ones of the
spate of domestic violence murder-suicides around Oregon in the last month.
The news release announcing the vigil by Portland's
Feminists Action League says standing together is critical and that "Domestic violence is not an isolated incident, in individual families. These homicides are not the result of holiday stress, financial troubles or crazy men 'losing it.' They are the final, fatal result of a series of behaviors intended to maintain power and control over an intimate partner. This is a social and political issue, in part a manifestation of the most extreme forms of sexism, oppression, and interpersonal violence."
