Nineteen years after its founding as a pioneering watchdog in the health-care industry, the
Oregon Health News is folding, according to the online
Lund Report. The newsletter had a reputation as a hard-hitting source of information, and it was a valuable resource to lawyers, lawmakers and journalists across the state.
In an email obtained by the Lund Report, the group explained, "The economic recession resulted in a decline in event sponsorships and subscriptions, a loss which the organization was unable to overcome."
The Lund Report is led by
Diane Lund-Muzikant, founder of the
Oregon Health News, who was fired in 2006 for what she claimed was
the organization's desire to capitalize on revenue opportunities and, ironically, turn the newsletter into a bigger moneymaker.
Nothing on the Oregon Health News website announces the closure. Calls to the organization's office were unanswered.
