Each week our culture scientists rank their 10 favorite things in the universe. The resulting list is infallible. The list is perfect. If you don't agree with the list, you are wrong.
Some items may stay atop the list for weeks, others may only make a
brief appearance. Some items are Portland-centric, but only because
Portland is at the center of the universe. Please do not write to us,
asking for the metrics behind the list. We will not provide source
material. We will not be swayed. Bow down to the list. Love the list, as
the list loves all things. Let the list move through you. (And, you
know, if you have suggestions for the list, stick them in the comments
section below.)
1. IsKettlemanStillOpen.com
Sob.
2. Vote buying allegations in Mayoral Madness
This contest continues to exceed our wildest expectations every day.
3. Live from Daryl's House
Perhaps we're the last to know, but Daryl Hall has an internet TV show
where he and T Bone Burnett jam with random (and often awesome)
musicians. Caught the Nick Lowe episode last night on the CW (!?) and it
was one of the more charming music-related video projects we'd seen in a
long time.
4. Almost Pizza
We think we ate some of that at a drive-thru in Idaho once.
5. James Van Der Beek playing James Van Der Beek
We're still a little iffy on ABC's new series Don't Trust the B in Apartment 23, but one thing we can say for sure is that whoever wrote and cast James Van Der Beek as himself is a genius.
6. Licorice
Hey, you know what? Fuck you! Licorice is awesome.
7. Air Bud
Oh man, that dog was funny. So glad he's still knocking around the Euro league.
8. Iced bubble tea
The sunny days have made it a wonderful treat.
9. Candy Babel
Now our favorite candy store in the world ever. This tiny Alberta shop stocks weird bulk candies from all over the globe. You can (and should) taste everything before you buy.
10. Bringing the '80s back, no matter how stupid
Triplets? Really? Who even remembers Twins?
