Jefferson Smith really wants to be the "fun" mayoral candidate, and he's willing to get wet to do it.

The Lents International Farmer's Market—out in East Portland, where Smith has attempted to build a base—opens on Sunday, June 17.

As part of the opening day celebrations, Smith will sit in a dunk tank and let spectators try to put him in the drink.

Smith rarely misses a chance to keep it weird—he was, for instance, the only major candidate to participate in the Mayoral Voodoo Doughnut eating contest earlier this year. Charlie Hales, who beat Smith in the May 15 mayoral primary, skipped that one, blaming a scheduling conflict.

Will Hales take the opportunity to dunk his opponent? We'll update this post when we get an answer from his campaign.

So rarely do we have the opportunity to throw things at our politicians. Take advantage of this one, Portland.
Opening day at the Lents International Farmers Market Opening Day, Northwest corner of SE 92nd and Foster Rd. is Sunday, June 17. 11 am-4 pm. Jefferson Smith splashes down at 1:30 pm.
