Menomena Announces New Album & Tour

By the time you read this, the news will have already been around the world and back. Such is the speed of our connected age. But this announcement is big enough to warrant us jumping in the fray and exulting with spasms of joy: A NEW MENOMENA ALBUM IS FORTHCOMING!!

Admit it, already: you were a little concerned that with the departure of Brent Knopf, the band would dissolve into various solo projects until, after a decade, the Knopf, Danny Seim, and Justin Harris finally decided to bury their respective hatchets and take off on a triumphant reunion tour. Well, that's what I was thinking at least.

The news of new Menomena material - a full-length album with the fantastic title Moms to be released on Barsuk on September 18th - was, for this writer anyway, met with a small portion of shock followed by a whole lot of excitement. And their announcement of this news, with an emphasis on the fact that Harris and Seim recorded everything as a duo, is quite a bold statement. Sounds like they are ready to prove that Menomena is not just the sum of its original parts but that, like Battles before them (another band who lost a key member during the height of their success), they can become more powerful than we could possibly imagine.

At least, that's what it sounds like from this little preview video the band released today along with this news. Enjoy it and then check out the tour dates the band has lined up, including...hey would you look at that...a show as part of this year's MusicFest NW.
