As long expected, the former interim director of the Oregon Department of Energy, Mark Long, has filed a lawsuit against outgoing Oregon Attorney General John Kroger, his former chief criminal attorney, Sean Riddell, and the Oregon Department of Justice, over their conduct during an investigation.

The lawsuit was filed today in Marion County Circuit Court. It was expected because Long filed a tort claim notice with the state in January 2011 laying out some of his allegations.

Long's complaint demands damages totaling $7.5 million for violations of his due process rights resulting from Kroger's investigation of a DOE contract awarded by Long to Cylvia Hayes, the longtime companion of Gov. John Kitzhaber.

Long and three other DOE employees were cleared of wrongdoing in the investigation, and the case raised serious questions about investigative methods used by Riddell on behalf of Kroger's Department of Justice.
