Kitz To Speak At Obama Event Today

President Barack Obama and Gov. John Kitzhaber in 2012

At least one prominent Democratic politician looks to be coming through for the Prez's efforts to stir up excitement (and money) from the Portland faithful. Gov. John Kitzhaber's office has confirmed that he will indeed be speaking on Obama's behalf at the President's $500-$1,000 fundraising luncheon at noon today, at the Oregon Convention Center.

No word yet on whether the Governor will be doing so in his trademark blue jeans, as he did at a previous Obama visit (see photo).

It seems that Kitzhaber will be one of the few Democratic officeholders to show up to today's private event, whose hosts include U.S. Rep. Earl Blumenauer of Portland. The offices of Reps. Suzanne Bonamici and Peter DeFazio as well as of Sen. Ron Wyden confirm that their Congressfolk will be busy making laws on the other side of the country. Both the U.S. House and Senate are in session on July 24; the House is expected to vote on whether to order an audit of the Federal Reserve.

Stay tuned for more on Obama's visit today.
