Future Drinking

Din Din supper club goes brick and mortar, and more new places to eat and drink in Portland

It feels like forever since I've done a Future Drinking post. I'm not lazy, there just haven't been many Portland liquor license applications lately. This post will cover about three weeks' worth of apps, and it's still brief.

Biggest news first: Looks like chef Courtney Sproule's roaming supper club, Din Din, is settling down. Sproule has applied for a full license for 920 NE Glisan St. According to the remarkably detailed (cheers, guys!) application, Din Din will serve coffee and "light lunch fare" 8 am-2 pm Monday-Friday, brunch 10-3 pm Sunday, and "reservations-only, single seating of 20-46 guests... where guests will eat a multi-course dinner with beverage pairings" at 7 pm Thursday-Saturday.

John Dovydenas, the owner of the Picnic food cart (which you may have seen in this year's Best of Portland) is looking to open a winery. Dovydenas Wines, at 1410 SE Clinton, will not be open to the public, offering wholesale sales only. Judging from his blog, Dovydenas is no stranger to the wine-making business.

Laurehurst wine store Vino (137 SE 28th Ave.) looks to be adding a wine bar of sorts—it has applied for a limited on-premises license.

Little Big Burger has applied for licenses for its upcoming South Waterfront and Northwest 23rd Ave locations. The latter is actually applying for a full liquor license. This is probably just because it's taking over previous tenant Yuki's license and not because it will be serving the hard stuff, but you never know.

Mama's Kitchen at 19131 E Burnside St. is now Your Lucky Spot, which, according to its Facebook page combines 89 cent tacos and Video Poker.

Something called Raven & Rose is seeking a full liquor license for 1331 SW Broadway.

Friends Cafe at 8435 SE Division St. will become Ha Long Cafe.
