Phil Plait: Death From the Skies!
[EDUTAINMENT] Phil Plait is the guy behind the excellent Bad Astronomy blog. He also worked on the Hubble Telescope. And he had a show on the Discovery Channel. And he writes books. So basically, he's way smarter than you. Plait is dropping in at OMSI Science Pub to talk about "the science behind the end of the world"âasteroids, comets, that sort of thing. He will also have some advice on how we can not die when these things occur (duck and cover, duh). Bagdad Theater, 3702 Southeast Hawthorne Blvd. 7 pm. $15. Tickets here.

Grendel Omnibus Vol. 1 Release and Art Exhibit with Matt Wagner
[COMICS] It's been three decades since Portland comic writer and artist Matt Wagner's first Grendel story was published, and it's being celebrated with a four-volume omnibus collecting the whole dang thing. Wagner signs Volume 1 and displays artwork at Floating World. Floating World Comics, 400 NW Couch St. 6 pm. Free.

[BOOKS] Portland comic writer Paul Tobin reads from his debut novel (like, words and no pictures novel), Prepare to Die, about a superhero who has weeks years left to live. There's also apparently lots of sex. Super sex. Powell's Books on Hawthorne, 3723 SE Hawthorne Blvd. 7:30 pm. Free.

[COMICS] Local comic writers and artists read from their own works. This month's line-up includes Matt Fraction, Sara Ryan, Suzette Smith and Ben Dewey. Jack London Bar, 529 SW 4th Ave. 8 pm. $3. 21+.

Trek in the Park: Journey to Babel
[THEATER, SCI FI] Atomic Arts' beloved Trek in the Park returns for a fourth season to perform the original series' episode #49, "Journey to Babel." A bunch of diplomats board the Enterprise, and one of them attacks Spock. Cathedral Park Amphitheater, North Edison St. and Pittsburg Ave. 5 pm. Free. Saturday-Sunday.

Astronomy Day and Mars Landing Viewing
[SPACE] Apparently Astronomy Day is a thing. More importantly, Curiosity is landing on Mars! OMSI is throwing a whole day of festivities, representatives from "local clubs and organizations" will be leading discussions and hands-on activities, and an inflatable model of Curiosity will be on display. Then from 9 pm, screens in the auditorium and planet-arium will show the live feed of NASA TV. OMSI, 945 SE Water Ave. 10 am-4 pm, then 9 pm (the actual landing happens at 10:30 pm).
