Fritz Forgives $50,000 Loan to Her Own Campaign

City Commissioner Amanda Fritz—in a difficult fight for re-election—fueled her primary campaign with $50,000 in loans from her own pocket. Fritz, who would accept only contributions up to $50, needed the money to hang on against a strong challenge from state Rep. Mary Nolan (D-Portland.)

Fritz has now forgiven that loan—which in effect turns the $50,000 into one big contribution to her own campaign, according to state campaign finance records. Add this to the $136,000 she spent directly from her own pocket in the primary.

Fritz, by the way, raised her self-imposed campaign contribution limit to $250 in June after receiving a donation for that amount from former City Commissioner Gretchen Kafoury. Since then, the looser limits have brought her 24 donations of up to $250, adding $5,750 to her campaign treasury.
