In this week's edition of Willamette Week, we reported that legendary African percussionist and longtime Portland resident Obo Addy—who passed away yesterday at age 76—was in the final stages of a protracted battle with liver cancer. Regrettably, in the paper's print edition, we published a photo incorrectly labeled as Obo Addy. It was, in fact, a photo of Addy's newphew, O.B. Ahmed Addy. It is an especially regrettable mistake, as we have made it before, in a 2009 music feature on Obo Addy, and because the two musical relatives have taken the issue of their similar names to court in the past.
In addition to sending our sincere condolences to the Addy family on their loss, we apologize for the error, and have taken steps to ensure it does not happen again in the future.
