Police Chief Mike Reese Finishes Strong In One Portland Race

He may have abandoned plans to run for mayor this year, but Portland Police Chief Mike Reese was among the throngs of Portland Marathon finishers at Southwest Salmon Street on Sunday.

Portland's top cop posted a respectable time, too: 4 hours and 11 minutes, or an average pace of 9 minute 35 second miles. No word if that's a personal best, but Reese, 55, did place 58 out of 194 men registered in his 55 to 59 age group.

Reese wasn't the only one of Portland's finest hitting the pavement.

Public Information Officer Robert King also competed in Sunday's marathon, finishing his very first marathon in 7 hours and 2 minutes, or 368 out of 373 men in his 45 to 49 age group. He adds he's already looking forward to next year.

But, if you use the Paul Ryan Marathon Time Calculator, King pulled off a comparatively speedy 5:05 effort.

No matter what metrics we use to measure, we're duly impressed when anyone runs 26.2 miles.
