Mayoral Debate: Tweetup at the OPB Corral

On a day when mayoral candidate Rep. Jefferson Smith (D-East Portland) faces grave challenges to his candidacy, he and opponent Charlie Hales are scheduled to take to the Oregon Public Radio airwaves for something called a "tweetup."

In short, the jackals of the press corps have been invited to OPB to sit in a room and use Twitter accounts to ask questions and make 140-character remarks regarding Smith and Hales. What this says about the state of contemporary journalism and the city is a question best left to you.

I'll be focusing on other inquiries. First, can Smith offer a persuasive case that his campaign is a going concern after yesterday's revelation of a police report and victim testimony in his 1993 misdemeanor assault charge? And can either candidate offer policy proposals we haven't heard a dozen times before on the campaign trail?

The hashtag is #mayorconvo.
