Photo Review: Gossip at Crystal Ballroom, Oct. 10

Beth Ditto and Gossip at the Crystal Ballroom on Oct. 10.

[Editor's Note: Hey, we've been busy. Seriously, though, apologies to Nilina Mason-Campbell for posting this so late. Really, though: Is it ever too late to enjoy live photos of Gossip?]

Headlining Crystal Ballroom for the first time, Gossip frontwoman Beth Ditto couldn't hide her excitement, acknowledging the milestone moments after the band arrived onstage. The energy in the room was electric, and remained so for the duration of the highly interactive se, which included a great deal of Ditto's usual stage banter. The electric set catered to all corners of the band's catalog, including cuts from latest album A Joyful Noise, sprinkled with tracks such as "Heavy Cross" from its previous album, alongside many songs from its breakthrough Standing in the Way of Control. Ditto singing Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance" lyrics over the group's own "Listen Up" marked one ad-libbed highlight. Ditto's commentary remained just as risqué as ever, giving the quote of the night midway through when a fan asked for Ditto's towel, with Ditto saying she'd gladly give up her sanitary towel, too. "And you can quote me on that!" she added. That we will.
