Jack Ohman Will Draw for Sacramento Bee

Political cartoonist Jack Ohman, who took a buyout from The Oregonian on Monday, is going to the Sacramento Bee

Ohman has drawn cartoons for The O for 29 years and was a Pulitzer finalist last year. Ohman has said his departure was not related to the direction the newspaper has taken under Publisher N. Christian Anderson III.

The Bee's history with editorial cartoonists is wound tightly with Ohman's work: Their last cartoonist, Rex Babin, died last year of cancer at age 49, and Ohman spoke at his memorial.

"While there is no way we will ever forget Rex and his phenomenal work," Bee editorial page editor Stuart Leavenworth wrote yesterday, "I know he'd be proud that The Bee is continuing its cartooning tradition at a time when many newspapers are abandoning it."

The Oregonian has not announced a search to replace Ohman.
