The U.S. women's national soccer team will be holding a training session open to the public at 5 pm Tuesday, November 27, allowing fans a free chance to see the team in action at Jeld-Wen Field, the Portland Timbers announced on Monday afternoon.
The team will play an exhibition match against the Republic of Ireland at 7 pm Wednesday, November 28, as part of a fan tribute tour following the team's gold medal victory in August at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
In those Olympics, the U.S. team went undefeated at 6-0-0. So far on the fan tribute tour, the U.S. team has won three games and tied two; both ties were against soccer powerhouse Germany.
The Irish team is not known as a major player on the international stage. Since the team's founding in 1973, the Republic of Ireland women's national soccer team has yet to qualify for Olympic, World Cup or European Championship competitions.
