Planned Parenthood Scraps CEO Candidates, Will Restart Search

The board of Planned Parenthood of the Columbia Willamette met Tuesday night with the expectation of naming a new CEO, but instead it unanimously agreed to re-start the search process.

"The board voted to continue the search," says Planned Parenthood spokeswoman Liz Delapoer. "We are hoping to have someone in place by early next year."

In the meantime, interim CEO Sarah Newhall will continue to run the non-profit, which has an annual budget of $20 million and employs more than 200 people.

As WW reported earlier, some longtime supporters of the organization were agitated by the news that one of the two finalists for the position was Judy Peppler, who until 2011 served as CEO of Qwest Oregon and whose support of GOP candidates that Planned Parenthood Advocates had opposed became a flashpoint.

"Judy Peppler was a candidate but is no longer under consideration," Delapoer says.
