Timbers Army Members Invest to Save Spanish Soccer Team

Portland's most intense soccer fans are seeing their impact go international. The New York Times reports that Timbers Army members have gotten behind an effort to save a once-storied Spanish team, Real Oviedo, that has fallen on hard times and is now selling shares to keep it out of bankruptcy. 

The commitment here has been so intense that Sherrilynn Rawson, one board member of the 107ist, the Timbers Army's coordinating council, promised to get a Real Oviedo tattoo if soccer fans in Portland bought 100 shares. They bought 400, and Rawson now sports the tattoo. 

The Times story notes Rawson is a school administrator; her profile on the Timbers Army web site says she's the principal at Nellie Muir Elementary in Woodburn.
