This weekend, Homer Simpson will eat his first Voodoo Doughnut. And the deliveryman? Fred Armisen.
Perhaps it was only a matter of timeâafter all, The Simpsonsâ creator, Matt Groening, is a Portland native. Sundayâs episode, âThe Day the Earth Stood Cool,â features the voices of Portlandiaâs Armisen and Carrie Brownstein, as well as comedian Patton Oswalt. According to Spinoff Online, Armisen and Brownstein play a Portland couple recently transplanted to Springfield, whom Homer befriends to increase his cool factor. Patton plays their hipper-than-thou son T-Rex (âa pretentious dickwad,â according to Simpsons writer Matt Selman). A daughter named Corduroy rounds out the clan.
On Spinoff, Selman promised the episode doesnât include birds or games of hide-and-seekâthough it does apparently make reference to a kickball league. And no word on how Homer likes Voodooâs fried dough (âI think the doughnut that he gets is a beer keg doughnut,â Armisen added).
âThe Day the Earth Stood Coolâ airs Sunday at 8 pm on Fox. Portlandia returns Jan. 4 on IFC.
