Cut of the Day: "Mayonnaise," the Woolen Men

Seems strange to call the Woolen Men's upcoming album on Woodsist the band's "debut album." Haven't they been with us for ages, releasing a wealth of material to their many fans? Yes, indeed they have, but all of those have come out on seven-inch single or short-run cassette releases. This self-titled album, out on March 5th, will be their first bona fide LP, coming out on wax and everything. 

To whet our hungry appetites for this new disc, both the band and the label have let out this new track, a sparkling little garage-pop gem with the winking title "Mayonnaise." Singer-guitarist Lawton Browning doesn't actually use the title anywhere in the song, but it is a great representation of the bland suburban hell he spends these three minutes worrying over. I don't think he has anything to worry about—I'm sure the neighborhood association of any residential area he might move into would balk at the sound of the Woolen Men rattling the windows of the homes in his chosen cul-de-sac. Stick to the city, boys.
