In Portland, we've built streetcars and an aerial tram, while leaving 59 miles of city streets unpaved and big swaths of outer-Southeast and Northeast Portland without sidewalks.

Now London's mayor, Boris Johnson, is getting grief from The Guardian for prioritizing a money-losing tram over basic infrastructure and for turning his city into a "nostalgia theme-park" full of "US-style enormodome exurban entertainment."
