Despite a late rally by the Portland Timbers, the San Jose Earthquakes maintained control of much of the second half in the teams' July 27 matchup at Buck Shaw Stadium in San Jose. A collision between Andrew Jean-Baptiste and Shea Salinas in the 55th minute resulted in a successful penalty kick for Victor Bernardez of San Jose. Three minutes later, Steven Lenhart made a second goal for the Quakes, finishing off the goal with a booty dance. In the 84th minute, Nagbe fired one into the San Jose goal, but Timbers' comeback hopes fell short. The final score was 2-1 San Jose.
