85,000 People Went to Brewfest. Only One Got A DUII.

The Oregon Brewers Festival attracted a record 85,000 people over its five-day run at the Tom McCall Waterfront Park last weekend.

And as festival organizers trumpeted the record attendance and opening on a Wednesday for the first-time ever, Portland police report that very few people were cited for alcohol-related shenanigans.

Police arrested just one person for driving under the influence of intoxicants, arrested one person with outstanding warrant, issued 11 citations and gave one warning, spokesman Sgt. Pete Simpson tells WW

As a past attendee of such event, I can say that for the level of drunky I've seen people achieve there, those numbers appear low.

Simpson says that people have to say they were at the brewfest or actually be there in order for an arrest or citation to be attributed to the festival. (As the Portland Mercury reported this week, off-duty Portland cops are hired as security at the brewers festival, to the tune of $15,513).

"I think a lot of people do ride share or take a cab," Simpson says. "They know they're not going for one drink but for lots."

Of course the same could be said for St. Patrick's Day or the Fourth of July, when there's far more DUII arrests in the metro area.

What say you, dear readers? Does this seem low? High? Or, as Golidlocks would say, just about right?
