Today's filings with the Oregon Secretary of State show the first big public employee contribution in what could be all-out ballot measure war in 2014.
The American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees'
Council 75 contributed $25,000 to the campaign for Initiative Petition
14, which would increase the minimum tax on corporations with Oregon
sales of more than $100 million.
In 2010, battles over Measures 66 and 67, which raised personal and corporate income taxes, caused a rift between unions and business interests.
Both sides have measures pointed at next year's ballot which could cause even more bitterness: more tax increases on the union side; and, measures that would reduce public employee unions' ability to collect dues and to compel membership on the business side.
