Cascade AIDS Project Executive Director Departs Abruptly

Less than six months after taking over as the new leader of the Cascade AIDS Project, CAP announced executive Glen Gilbert stepped down today.

Gilbert was hired April 29 to lead the non-profit, which has an annual budget of $6 million.

Gilbert raised eyebrows in July when he testified on behalf of then-Multnomah County Chairman Jeff Cogen, whose colleagues had introduced a resolution asking Cogen to resign. The county provides nearly $1 million a year to CAP. Gilbert said he was speaking as a personal friend of Cogen's, not as a director of a non-profit dependent on county money.

"I believe Jeff is a very, very good person, and a very, very good leader," Gilbert said in that hearing. "It is clear to me that Jeff is incredibly sorry. My heart goes out to Jeff. I believe we should let the voters decide in 10 months."

WW reported earlier this week that Gilbert was placed on leave from his job, which pays about $135,000, on Sept. 12, following his return from a national AIDS conference in New Orleans.

CAPs board met on Wednesday and the organization announced Gilbert's departure today.

He will be replaced by current CAP director of finance and operations Mary Marshall, who will serve as interim executive director.

Likewise, CAP’s commitment to the ongoing fight against HIV/AIDS through education and outreach has never been stronger as we expand our reach and deepen our impact.”
Gilbert could not immediately be reached for comment.
