Win Tickets To See Dustin Wong Tomorrow Night at Mississippi Studios!

In Baltimore art-rock act Ponytail, guitarist Dustin Wong contributes to a lot of joyful noise. By himself, Wong makes music of a more reserved—though no less radiant—nature. He's been called the one-man Battles, and that's not far off. On his solo albums, loops and layers of spindly, needling guitar interlock and fold into one another, creating vividly chiming soundscapes à la the Durutti Column. It's a mesmerizing listen. Wong's most recent, Meditation of Ecstatic Energy, was conceived as the last part of a trilogy, finds the effects pedals taking over, muddying up his guitar tones in ways both beautiful and disturbing. As ever, he handles each one with respect and daring as he spins them into dizzying polyrhythms and softly melting melodies.

Tomorrow night, Wong plays Mississippi Studios alongside a recent collaborator, Japanese pop singer Takako Minekawa. Want to experience his mastery in person? We've got a pair of tickets for you. Simply email tix@wweek.com with DUSTIN WONG in the subject line, and the winner will be notified after the contest closes at 3 pm. Good luck!

SEE IT: Dustin Wong and Takako Minekawa play Mississippi Studios, 3939 N Mississippi Ave., with Jason Urick and Rauelsson, on Saturday, Oct. 19. 9 pm. $8 advance, $10 day of show.
