Oregon United for Marriage, which hopes to legalize same-sex marriage in this state next year, said today its signature gatherers have eclipsed the number of signatures required to make next November's ballot.

Here's the statement from the campaign:

On the one-year anniversary of the day same-sex couples could first receive marriage licenses in Washington state, Oregon United for Marriage is announcing that the campaign has collected more than 116,284 signatures, the minimum needed to put the Freedom to Marry and Religious Protection Initiative on the November ballot.

The campaign, which began collecting signatures just over four months ago, has until July 3 to turn in enough signatures to qualify for the ballot, giving Oregonians the chance to vote for the freedom to marry on November 4.

With 118,176 signatures in hand, volunteers in every county are still collecting more.

The state Elections Division's signature verification process typically rejects thousands of signatures, so the campaign will undoubtedly seek to exceed the minimum requirement by several tens of thousands of signatures.
