Court Rules Portland International Airport Must Accept Clearcutting Ad

The Oregon Wild ad in the Eugene airport

A Multnomah County Circuit Court judge ruled today that the Portland International Airport is required by the state constitution to accept an advertisement by environmental group Oregon Wild that calls the state "Home of the Clearcut."

The court rejected the Port of Portland's argument that the state constitution intended an exception to its free-speech clause for political statements on government-owned property.

The judge ordered the Port, which runs the airport, to display the ad depicting the clear-cutting of forests.

ACLU of Oregon filed the lawsuit on behalf of Oregon Wild.
