Video: "Take Your Time," Tope

Erykah Badu approves.

All right, we're a little late in posting this—hey, we're busy—but in case you haven't seen it yet, here's the new video from Tope. Directed by Portland's go-to rap video auteur Noah Porter (he also lensed Cassow's latest clip, which we did post earlier this week), it's the first time the popular local MC hasn't appeared as himself. Here, he plays Soul Flower T, an aspiring slam poet and serious Erykah Badu stan. Appropriately, the track, produced by Tope himself on last year's Trouble Man EP, samples the neo-soul Q.U.E.E.N., and also features some great midnight trumpet from Portland jazz fixture Farnell Newton.

And in case you haven't heard, life imitated art when the video premiered earlier this week, when Badu herself got wind of the video and sent the following tweets:

No word on whether Tope has yet returned from the liquefied state he melted into directly after seeing that, but hopefully he'll recover in time to open for Zion I at Hawthorne Theater on Feb. 8.
