Future Drinking: A Beer With Every Movie!

You thought Portland had enough brew views? You thought wrong! After an apparently successful experiment at the Fox Center, Regal Cinemas is now moving to add beer and wine to a much wider swath of its cinemas in the Portland Area. Pioneer Place, Bridgeport Plaza, Lloyd Center 10 and Tigard 11 Cinemas have all applied to slap wristbands on its adult patrons and taunt teenagers with beer that doesn't cost all that much more than the soda.

Hot on the heels of the city's first nonprofit bar, here comes a nonprofit brewery. Ex Novo Brewing company is planning to open in early 2014, and is "committed to donating 100% of our net profits to organizations that are working to affect [sic] positive social change both in Portland and around the world." Which is nice. The founder is Joel Gregory, who wrote on the company site that he recently stepped away from an engineering career to found the nonprofit. 

The closing of Record Room was not the end of drunken record shopping in this town—or even at that address. Turn! Turn! Turn! has moved into that spot at 8 NE Killingsworth St., and means to take over the beer license. Owner Scott Derr says he's expanding the concept, however, adding not only more taps but more retail beyond records, from old zine and magazines to clothes and books, plus adding some food items. "It's a dream I had for a while," he says. "So when this spot opened up, I came in."

Bassotto Gelateria, a new gelateria that looks to start in the Woodlawn neighborhood at 1726 NE Dekum St. in March 2014, has applied for a full liquor license—meaning, who knows? They might give 50 Licks a run for their money on the frozen cocktail front.

Like wine with your coffee?  Christopher David Experience Design, the florist/cafe/interior design shop at 901 NW 10th Ave., is aiming to get a beer and wine license. 

And it also looks like margaritas might be coming to La Bonita taqueria on Northeast 28th Avenue and Alberta Street; the restaurant has applied for a full liquor license.

According to paperwork filed, the popular Hillsdale Tiki-Mexi-Asian food spot Salvador Molly's will be expanding across the river to the border of Brooklyn and Sellwood, taking over the site of the Yummy Garden Chinese restaurant whose iconic sign marks the on-ramp onto 99E.

K.A.C. Thai Fusion, at 710 SW 2nd Ave., looks to become Saithong Thai. K.A.C. had taken over from River's Edge Cafe in 2012.

Thanh Thao Market, at 6517 NE Sandy Blvd., seems to be changing hands to Sang Luon Tan.

Benjamin Friesen's Forty Five winery has applied to move its distribution into Portland, at 3936 SE Main St.
