Two days after canceling the Worst Day of the Year Ride's challenging ride through the west hills because of snow, organizers have also pulled the plug on the short urban ride and the after-ride party.
As recently as six hours ago, organizers expected that a small part of the ride would still go on. No longer.
"Worsening weather and forecasted freezing rain prevents 2014 Worst Day of the Year Ride
," organizers said in an e-mail to participants. "This is the only time that the event has seen any weather except sunshine. 12 out of 13, not bad—
but the 13th is packing a wallop. We look forward to next year's return to normalcy."
Don't worry, riders, if you were registered for this year's race, "YOU ARE ALREADY REGISTERED FOR 2015, AND PAID IN FULL. This includes all merchandise and meal passes."
"Mother Nature wins this round," the e-mail said. "Tents can't be set, toilets can't be delivered, buses are being cancelled, roads are unsafe... BOOMING drums will start you off....NEXT YEAR... Delicious treats await you NEXT YEAR... Prizes awarded to the top 50 costumes NEXT YEAR."*
*Barring inclement weather NEXT YEAR.
