The endorsements keep on coming in the race for Multnomah County chair—this time on the side of former County Commissioner Deborah Kafoury.
Kafoury tells WW she's received official backing from the Oregon Nurses Association and the Oregon League of Conservation Voters.
"I"m really excited about the series of endorsements I've received," Kafoury says.
ONA represents 300 nurses in Multnomah County, while OLCV is among the most influential environmental groups in the state.
Kafoury's announcement comes hours after the county's largest employee union, AFSCME Local 88, endorsed her opponent, former City Commissioner Jim Francesconi.
The slew of endorsements suggests the race to replace disgraced County Chair Jeff Cogen—who resigned after revelations he had an affair with a county employee—is heating up.
In a brief interview this afternoon, Kafoury downplayed the loss of union backing.
"I'm proud of the thousands of dedicated employees we have at the county," Kafoury says. "And we're going to have a fabulous relationship when I'm county chair."
