AFSCME Kicks in to Block Water Bureau Measure

Organized labor has a financial interest in preserving the status quo at the City of Portland's Water Bureau and we now see the first evidence of that—AFSCME Local 189 contributed $10,000 to the Stop the Bull Run Takeover PAC yesterday.

That committee, which was just formed this week, has raised a little over $13,000 so far.

Portlanders for Water Reform, the industrial customers, led by Portland Bottling Company and Wacker Siltronic, who are hoping to convince voters to turn control over the bureau to a seven-person board independent of City Hall, have raised $173,000 since last August.
