Screw you, alleged Best New Band curse!
Shy Girls, last year's winner of Willamette Week's annual local music poll, are going to spend early spring on tour with the group America unofficially voted its favorite new band of 2013, Haim. The sisterly pop-rock trio hand-picked the Portland-based R&B act to open 14 dates in April and May, including sold-out shows in San Francisco, Washington, D.C., and New York, according to singer-producer Dan Vidmar.
"We are upgrading some gear and adjusting our setlist for the tour along with a few other modifications, but for the most part we are gonna be playing the same way we would to a crowd of 100," Vidmar says. "Just gonna be ourselves."
It's the culmination of a few big months for Shy Girls, which saw the release of its Timeshare EP in October and subsequent online endorsements from Maxwell and Brandy, '90s R&B singers whose heyday the group's softly funky sound harks back to.
Full Haim-Shy Girls dates are below. Before getting to those, though, check out the Girls' gauzy new video for "Voyeur's Gaze," starring Ms. Bailey Stiles of New York performance art drag troupe Chez Deep. Technically, it's safe for work, but…exercise caution, anyway.
