Here it is: The MusicfestNW 2014 lineup.
As previously announced, it's got way less bands than usual, because the festival has shrunken down to two days and will be held exclusively in Tom McCall Waterfront Park. But you know what they say: quality over quantity. And the bill's got quality all over it.
Start at the top for both days: Mash-up wizard and MFNW vet Girl Talk headlines Saturday, while Spoon—one of indie rock's most consistent bands, who are dropping their first album in since 2010 at some point this year—close out Sunday. In between is a whole lot of other goodness, including sisterly pop-rockers Haim and synth-pop romantics Future Islands, two of the buzziest names in music, whose previous appearances in Portland were big-ticket, small-venue shows that sold out well in advance. The highlights run up and down the lineup, from electro noir-pop duo Phantogram to rugged hip-hop dream team Run the Jewels to hardcore maximalists Fucked Up to cosmic soul virtuoso Thundercat to the uncategorizable Tune-Yards. That's not to mention locals Shy Girls, Modern Kin and the sorta-local doom-folk songstress EMA, who's released one of 2014's best albums, The Future's Void.
MusicfestNW takes place August 16-17. Limited, discounted "early bird" tickets go on sale May 2. Go to musicfestnw.com/tickets for more information on how to purchase.
