Even marches against the Man are subject to his appointment book, apparently. The Dyke March, the annual Portland Pride showing of feminism and all things radically queer, has been rescheduled.
The march will begin at 1:30 pm at the North Park Blocksânot at 6:30 pm at Tom McCall Waterfront Park.
Pride Northwest, the nonprofit behind Pride, and other organizers say they had to make the change after the City of Portland told them they could not have two marches on the same day several hours apart; the Trans Pride March is scheduled for 11:30 am along the same route.
âThe two marches will still be separate but will happen closer together,â said march coordinator Belinda Carroll in a release. âIt actually works out: Weâll be able to share resources like our parade float, which doubles as an accessibility vehicle for people who canât walk the whole route.â
Portlandâs Dyke March turns 20 this year, but this Trans Pride March will be the festival's first of its sort. Organizers say they expect several hundred people to turn out for the marchesâbut hopefully at the right time.
