New American Restaurant Planned for Mextiza Space

Mix-n-match family-style menu, Bees and Beans chocolate bar retail space planned.

Fresh after confirmation that Oswaldo Bibiano's uspcale Mexican restaurant Mextiza intends to close on July 31, it looks like there's already a new restaurant being planned for 2103 N. Killingsworth St.

Faith and Aaron Dionne—onetime pastry chef and sous chef, respectively, at Higgins restaurant—have applied for a liquor license with the OLCC this week to open a restaurant called New American. They hope to open in September.

Faith Dionne plans to also build out a retail space for her line of candy bars, Bees and Beans, and provide desserts for the restaurant.

New American is expected to be a mix-n-match, "complete and ready" meal concept—so take-out or dine-in eaters would choose a main protein, a side, a sauce and a salad. (Sample menu below.) Both individual and family-size full-meal options would be available; the wine, beer and cocktails would be similarly scalable, served both by the glass and by the bottle, pitcher or carafe.

Their sample menu is below, or click here for a larger version:
